This is my latest arrangement for piano, vocalist, and four tenors. I added a bass line too, on this wonderful Neal Hefti tune from 1958, Cute, written for the Basie band. All tap dancers are familiar with it, and I have this mental picture of a movie where there's a nervous director guy rehearsing a number with his chorus girls, who are all wearing those voluminous silky tap shorts. The director cues the piano player, who's a guy in white shirt with rolled up sleeves, and a vest, maybe with a derby hat too, playing an upright piano on one side of the stage. Maybe smoking a cigar too. Ah one and ah two and.... Cute!
Mind if I say you’re Cute
In every way you’re Cute
Those big blue eyes
That turned up nose
That cool and carefree pose,
I mean I like your style
That sly intriguing smile
Your every mood,
Your attitude,
All adds up to you’re Cute!
